The interconnection works to the Odessa-Chisinau gas pipeline have begun
Between July 6-8, the 12.85 km long pipeline section, recently built, will be replaced and connected to the Odessa-Chisinau gas pipeline. The works were recently completed with a positive test result. To be able to interconnect the new gas pipeline to the existing one, a thorough preparation, the disconnection of the existing section and a close collaboration between the technical sections within the company are needed.
Thus, according to the interconnection plan, the Chisinau-1 Delivery Station (DS Chisinau-1) will be stopped, and the Floreni-Mereni Delivery Station (DS Chisinau-2) will take over the entire gas flow for Chisinau. DS Chisinau-1 is supplied by the Odessa-Chisinau gas pipeline, which involves the supply of Chisinau city, suburbs as well as Thermal power station 1 (TPS 1) and Thermal power station 2 (TPS 2).
Therefore, the Dispatching Center coordinates the mobile teams to reduce the gas pressure in the Odessa-Chisinau pipeline, and during this period consumers in Chisinau will receive gas from DS Chisinau-2 where the pipeline pressure will ensure their need. This is possible only after the Metrology Department and the gas record will change the diaphragms in the record nodes, to allow the transport of a larger gas capacity through DS Chisinau-2.
According to the interconnection plan, on July 1, 2021, the takeover of gas from DS Chisinau-2 by TPSs will begin, and on July 2, by household consumers. Thus, the outlet pressure from DS Chisinau-2 will be increased to 7.5-8 bar. The outlet pressure from DS Chisinau-1, however, will be gradually reduced from 3 bar to the parameters of 2.7-2.8 bar.
In parallel, the preparation works for the interconnection of the newly built gas pipeline are completed, and the specialists from the Electro-Chemical Protection Section carry out the pipeline polarization procedure that allows the welding works to be carried out.
After the whole complex of preparation works has been carried out, the Pipeline Operation Section will disconnect the existing pipeline section and then will connect the pipeline built between km 153.5-166.4 of the gas pipeline, thus completing the works.
On November 2020 “Moldovatransgaz” LLC has started the capital repair works of one the oldest gas pipeline in Moldova, Odessa-Chisinau. The gas pipeline has a total length of 44 km and was built in 1966. Through the given pipeline, the natural gas transmission system of the Republic of Moldova is interconnected with the Ukrainian TSO in the East, and with the Romanian TSO in the West.
